Rocket Man Won't Blow
Monday, March 1, 2010 17:31 GMT
SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) One real life rocket man doesnt want to blow.John Coker is a longtime rocket builder, creating explosive aircrafts for fun in his shop in the Bay Area and documenting his high-flying creations on jcrocket.com.
In the past hes built rockets shaped like Crayola crayons and blasted them into the air.
Currently, hes working on a fully-functional replica of the Flash Gordon rocket thats more aerodynamic than the original movie version.
For Coker, rockets are more than just something to blow up.
He says, The building is the fun. Figuring out how to do it. What I like is building something that has to function. The launching isnt as big a deal.
It can take years for Coker to finish one rocket that he only blows up once. He assures that his hobby can be done using cheaper materials like plywood and doesnt take a rocket scientist.
