Dogs And Cats Won't Be Eaten
Friday, January 29, 2010 17:11 GMTBETHESDA, Md. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Dogs and cats in China may no longer have to stand the heat in the kitchen.
A law is set to pass that would make it illegal to slaughter a dog or cat for their meat, which is used in local cuisine regularly because it supposedly promotes bodily warmth.
Anyone who kills a pooch or kitty could face a fine of up to $730 or 15 days in jail, and Dawn Moncrief of the Farm Animal Rights Movement says this is a major victory for furry friends.
She explains, Animals have feelings and are intelligent. People call us horrified that they eat cats and dogs in foreign countries. They see those animals in their homes, they bond with them.
Moncrief hopes that if China realizes how cruel it is to kill pets for food, maybe others will think twice before eating defenseless animals like cows, pigs, and chickens too.
