Yogis Fight Against Own Bodies

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Yoga aficionados fight an intense battle with their own bodies.

USA Yoga is a federation that holds competitions around the U.S. in which yogis compete in body-bending battles in hopes of being named the U.S. yoga champion.

Founder Rajashree Choudhury says yoga is a real sport not unlike gymnastics or body building that takes time and training to master.

In these contests, the only person participants are truly fighting is themselves.

She explains, “It’s such an intense feeling when a person competes. Win or lose, you become the victim of your own failure or success. You’re in competition with yourself more so than with others.”

Many yogis buckle under their self-imposed pressure, falling over or shaking mid-pose.

Choudhury says the competition is “not a beauty contest,” it’s about confidence, balance, and flexibility so participants shouldn’t worry about how they look so much as what they can accomplish with their body.
