Honor Buzz Lightyear’s Space Service

ORLANDO, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – After serving 15 months in space, Disney’s Buzz Lightyear is being honored for his brave mission.

A 12-inch Buzz action figure was aboard a NASA space shuttle since May 2008, making Buzz America’s longest serving space ranger.

Buzz just returned to Earth and to celebrate his trip to “infinity and beyond” Disney Parks and NASA have launched the “Mission Patch Design Challenge” for kids ages 6-12.

Now through November 6, kids are invited to design a custom mission patch for Buzz, since NASA astronauts design patches to symbolize their flight accomplishments.

Kids and parents can visit to download templates and materials to design the patch.

Along with their badge, contestants must submit a brief essay discussing the inspiration for their design.

The winner will get a vacation to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, a VIP tour of the Kennedy Space Center, and get to meet real NASA astronauts.

Disney hopes the challenge gets kids interested and excited about space exploration.
