‘The Hills’ Inspires Art

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Who knew a trashy TV show like The Hills could inspire an entire art form?

Artist Karin Bubas really brings the drama through her exhibit With Friends Like These, on display at the Charles H. Scott Gallery in Vancouver until September 13.

The collection of pastel portraits feature the stars of the MTV reality series during their most emotional onscreen moments, including Lauren Conrad crying black mascara tears and Heidi Montag pouting.

Bubas thought The Hills would translate perfectly into art, especially because “you feel like you really know the castmembers” and become intimately involved with their pain.

She says re-creating L.C.’s “iconic” teary moment was her favorite because it “captured the heartache of fighting with a close friend perfectly.”

Bubas didn’t bother with creating the stars’ happy moments, admittedly because she was “trying to make them all look beautiful and horrible at the same time.”
