Bob Newhart Plots Own Death

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Legendary actor Bob Newhart once plotted his own death.

Thespian Damon DiMarco has written The Quotable Actor: 1001 Pearls Of Wisdom From Actors Talking About Acting (Santa Monica Press), which includes anecdotes and quotes from Hollywood stars.

The “quote junkie” says one his favorite backstage stories comes from Bob Newhart, who hated his first movie job so much, he constantly came up with ways to have his character killed off.

Newhart would pitch death plotlines to the director of the 1962 flick Hell Is For Heroes on a daily basis just so he could ditch the gig.

Other interesting tidbits DiMarco discovered were the early acting struggles of Al Pacino who “didn’t have a pot to piss in” and wanted to pursue stand-up comedy, and the time actress Lorraine Bracco auditioned for Mel Brooks who flat-out told her she wasn’t funny.

DiMarco says Jack Nicholson has the best approach to acting, since he believes classical methods are “bullsh■t” and lives by the mantra, “If it works, do it.”
