Fourth Of July Knows No Recession

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Despite the recession, Americans plan to celebrate their independence this Saturday (Jul. 4).

According to a survey from the National Retail Federation, more Americans will party on the Fourth of July this year than last year.

About 62.6 percent – or 144 million people – will host or attend a cookout, picnic, or BBQ, compared to 139 million who celebrated the Fourth of July in 2008.

More folks will attend their local fireworks on Independence Day – 42.7 percent this year compared to 40.2 percent in 2008.

About 11.5 percent will go to a parade while 11.4 percent travel or take a vacation on the Fourth.

Getting into the patriotic spirit will be easy and cheap for folks, since 121 million of them already own an American flag, 89 million have patriotic apparel, and 58 million own Americana-type decorations.

In fact, only 14 percent of consumers plan to purchase extra patriotic goodies this month, which will save more cash for the hot dogs.
