Buck Wolf’s Weird News Central: A Giant Among Dwarves

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – How many times in a five- foot-six man’s life will he tower over everyone in a room?

About.com’s Weird News Central reporter Buck Wolf will get that chance this July, when 500 dwarves from across the country gather for the Little People Of America’s annual convention, a tradition that may not have started if it weren’t for The Wizard Of Oz.

When dozens of dwarves gathered in Hollywood for the 1939 film, it was the first time so many little people where in the same place at the same time.

Wolf says, “The old Hollywood story is that Oz was one big Munchkin sex party. But the truth is, most average people never saw such a large gathering of dwarves and they let their imaginations run wild.”

Bill Barty was the biggest dwarf star in Hollywood at the time and though he didn’t appear in Oz, it did inspire him to form an organization that now boasts more than 60,000 little members.
