Pet Parade Sniffs Out Comeback

LA JOLLA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Who let the dogs out? Proud pets are hitting the pavement this Saturday (May 16) in La Jolla, California.

The First Annual La Jolla Pet Parade is coming to the seaside town and organizer Nancy Warwick says it follows in the pawsteps of past pups.

The parade committee recently found an old newspaper article about similar event called the “Pooch Parade” which happened in La Jolla in 1937.

More than 72 years later, the parade is back and it’ll boast quirky prize categories like the original, which awarded the tiniest dog, biggest dog, and dog with the longest tail.

Modern parade contests also include ugliest dog, most unusual dog, and stupidest pet trick.

The parade will be led by famed movie pup, Benji, and though it seems it’s all gone to the dogs, Warwick assures other pets are welcome.

She knows of a mini horse who’s parading, and hopes to see cats, rabbits, pot-bellied pigs, and even a boa constrictor marching the route.

Proceeds will benefit the Spay Neuter Action Project (SNAP).
