Illinois Man Builds A Metal Zoo

ESSEX, Ill. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A 75-year-old man in Essex, Illinois, is having a wild time building his own metal zoo.

Jack Barker is a former body shop owner who’s spends his days constructing metal sculptures shaped like various animals and displaying them at his home.

Barker’s lawn in covered with 80 animals built from old car parts that he has lying around, including a life-size buffalo and an eight-foot giraffe.

He says, “With all those animals, it’s like having a metal zoo, except there’s no clean up necessary.”

The metal zookeeper’s sculptures have made him a celebrity in his town, and he says people giving directions to folks passing through always tell them to “just look for the animals and turn right.”

He laughs, “It’s a little town, and I was born and raised here. So people think what I’m going is pretty fun.”
