Thats the word from Steve and Janice Fitzgerald, who run PreVue, a formal dress shop in La Mesa, California.
Like many business people, the Fitzgeralds expected slower business this year but have been amazed that sales are actually remaining steady.
Steve figures parents are splurging on dresses for their daughters to, in part, save young kids from negativity and because they realize their daughters only have one prom.
Still, the Fitzgeralds are noticing that more dresses are purchased on layaway nowadays, partially because the cost of dresses has increased.
Angel Teems, who writes for promadvice.com, isnt surprised that dress sales havent dropped as much as other businesses.
However, Teems predicts that while this years promgoers will splurge on prom attire, theyre more likely to forgo renting limos or eating in fancy restaurants.
