Art Show Compares To Monster Truck Rally

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Art shows can be as loud and raucous as a monster truck rally.

At least that’s the way it is at the Monster Drawing Rally, an annual art show held at the Southern Exposure gallery in San Francisco, where 120 artists pump out drawings and eager art lovers race to buy new original work.

According to director Courtney Fink, this year’s event, happening on Friday (Feb. 27), promises to be a crazy time.

She says, “It’s such a high energy event that we joke it’s like a monster truck rally. That’s how we got the name. It’s a spectacle. We let the artists do whatever they want and it turns into a total frenzy.”

The atmosphere at the Monster Drawing Rally is most wild when it comes down to buying a work of art.

Fink explains, “People get really worked up about getting the work they want. We’ve learned how to deal with people competing. We make them pick from a deck of cards and whoever gets the high card wins. Sometimes there’s some shoving though. It’s crazy.”
