Sara Gilbert Gets Bummed Out By Acting

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some roles are a real bummer for actress Sara Gilbert.

Gilbert – best known for playing Darlene Conner on the sitcom Roseanne – has been taking on more dramatic roles lately and admits it’s “hard to shake” serious characters after filming wraps.

She’s playing a tortured mother on the season premiere of Law & Order: SVU, which airs tomorrow (Sep. 23), and totally immersed herself in the drama.

Says Gilbert: “The real powerful roles bum me out for a few weeks afterwards and the heavier characters require real discipline. You can’t shake the role by going to lunch. When you get back from lunch you have to focus on the scene again, not the thought of you eating a sandwich.”

To get into character on Law & Order, she reached out to drama queen Mariska Hargitay, who, in Gilbert’s words, “Is like a budding director,” who taught her acting shortcuts and tricks.

And while she’s happy to be tackling tougher gigs these days, Gilbert is forever thankful for her springboard role on Roseanne.
