Thats the dead honest truth about the 15th Annual Authentic Bonnie and Clyde Festival, which will draw as many as 800 people to Gibsland, Louisiana, this weekend (May 23-24) to commemorate the 74th anniversary of the death of the legendary bank robbers.
The festival reenacts the ambush that killed the dangerous duo on May 23, 1934, just a few miles from the center of Gibsland, and while the pretend killing has actors bleeding loads of fake blood, the scary scene is very kid-friendly.
Spokesperson Pam Volentine says, All the little kids wait for the bullets to come out of the guns. They run into the street to collect them. Only the itty-bitty ones are scared.
In fact, while the festival features historians and even a surviving relative of Clydes discussing the outlaws exploits, Volentine admits its the shootout thats the real draw.
