Mafia Wife Whacks Stereotypes

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Mafia wives are more than just big hair and gaudy clothes.

Former mafia wife Andrea Giovino – who was married to mobster John Fogarty and served as a mafia loan shark and money launderer – wants to whack the stereotype of mafia women as ignorant, badly dressed arm candy.

She says, “It really upsets me to see the way mafia women are portrayed in movies and television, with the big hair, the big nails, and the gaudy clothing. I’ve never been that way. People also think the husband is the big boss, but the wife always knows what’s going on.”

The lady mobster admits to garnering a lot of respect from mafia kingpins like John Gotti, and even had a contract put out on her life after ratting out major Italian crime bosses.

But leaving the crime game was worth it in the end.

Giovino says, “I don’t miss it at all. When I look back, I don’t know that person anymore.”

Giovino will be profiled on WE tv’s docu-series Secret Lives of Women, which airs tomorrow (May 13).
