Picklefest Stinks Up The Streets

ATKINS, Ark. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – People in Atkins, Arkansas, are getting all choked up about their town’s funky festival.

May 16-17 marks the 17th Annual Picklefest, which has as many as 10,000 people celebrating the pickle with tasting tents, eating contests, and even a pageant, which gives the titles of “Miss Sweet Pickle,” and “Little Mr. Dill” to the winning couple.

But the drinking contest is really putting people in a pickle.

The pickle juice drinking contest invites brave pickle lovers to chug a jar full of juice, and spokesperson Renee Taylor says, “It can be gross to watch. Very few people get through the whole jar. Occasionally people vomit, but most people know their limits.”

If pounding pickles isn’t your thing, there are 150 vendors selling other types of food, but Taylor says the overwhelming pickle odor may stick to anything you eat.

She says, “You smell the stench of pickles walking down the street.”
