Vintage Ads Go From Classy To Sassy

ASHLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Classic vintage ads are getting a sassy makeover thanks to an Oregon-based novelty company.

Ed Polish is the owner of Ephemera Inc., a novelty company specializing in magnets, buttons, and stickers featuring prim and proper vintage advertisements juxtaposed with modern, saucy sayings.

The ads often feature Suzy Homemaker women saying defiant, snarky phrases like I never met a man I couldn’t blame, I’m still hot, it just comes with flashes now, and Darn right I’m good in the kitchen. I can eat for hours, and are featured in Polish’s new book You Say I’m A Diva Like It’s A Bad Thing (Ten Speed Press).

Polish says his modern, humorous take on the ads often gets praise from people who appreciate the provocative slogans, but once in a while he’ll get strange and negative reactions.

Polish says, “One time a Rush Limbaugh-type conservative accused me of having a feminine Nazi agenda and wanted to hit me in the head with a shovel. Another time someone thought I was a drag queen for making up these snappy slogans. I do neither of those things. But I live to provoke!”

You Say I’m A Diva hits shelves in May.
