Heather MacLean Walters is a nutritionist and author of Desserts That Heal (MCE Press), a cookbook and health guide outlining the benefits of everything from chocolate and strawberries, to pumpkins, raisins, and even whipped cream and butter.
Walters says dessert favorites like chocolate and coconut arent as devilish as people think, as they contain antioxidants to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, compounds to promote healthy skin and hair, and even cancer-fighting agents.
Walters says, Some people love it and some hate it, but coconut is out-of-control good for you. And even whipped cream and butter arent as bad as people think.
And while Walters book tackles the healthy side of after-supper snacking, she stands by the taste of her treats as long theyre eaten in moderation.
She says, All these recipes taste good. And unless youre eating five pies at a time, dont feel bad.
Desserts That Heal comes out April 10.
