Singers Seek Stardom In Karaoke Contest

COSTA MESA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You don’t have to be Kelly Clarkson to be a killer karaoke star.

Beginning February 16, stardom-seeking singers can enter Songburst, a karaoke singing contest in Costa Mesa, California, with the winner taking home $1,000.

And everyone – including tone-deaf tunesmiths – are encouraged to try out.

Spokesperson Peter Parker says, “The only time anyone gets booed off is when they’re making a complete spectacle of themselves or trying to make fun of other contestants. You don’t have to be Pavarotti to enter.”

But don’t think that you can win by pulling a William Hung, because you still have to impress your fellow competitors, who will vote for the winner.

Says Parker: “People realize karaoke is more than singing loudly and off tune. Everyone’s taking the same risk of performing in front of people, but some of our quality singers are as good as the pros.”
