Spirit Curse Terrifies Treasure Hunters

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Two brothers in Apache Junction, Arizona, have uncovered a terrific treasure – but they’re too scared to share its spoils.

Bill and Mike Johnson are the authors of Spirits in the Mountain (Johnson), which documents their dangerous two-year expedition to find the fabled Lost Dutchman Gold Mine and the Peralta Treasure in the Superstition Mountains in Arizona.

Bill believes he and his brother have found the door to a room that houses both treasures in a place they call Tortoise Mountain.

But getting inside is another psychic, scary story.

Bill says, “There have been 150 or 200 people that have died searching for these treasures. Their spirits brought us here. There are a lot of treasure hunters, but they chose us.”

And while the brave brothers believe they were spiritually summoned to the spoils, they’re in no hurry to gather the gold.

Johnson says, “We’re not after the greed of gold. There’s something very sacred in there, and it’s got us scared to open it. We’ll save that for the second book.”
