Marshmallow Festival Gets Parents Puffed Up

LIGONIER, Ind. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One unique festival is getting parents and kids all puffed up.

At least that’s according to Tammy Deel, chairman of the 16th Annual Marshmallow Festival being held in Ligonier, Indiana, from August 31 to September 3.

The festival attracts 15,000 marshmallow lovers for events like bobbing for marshmallows and marshmallow hula hoop, where folks balance a marshmallow on a spoon while hula hooping.

The festival’s most intense competition, however, is the kid’s marshmallow cook-off, and parents are known to get heated up over the puffy treat.

Says Deel, “The parents really push their kids. They get very vocal and involved, like crazy Little League dads.”

Though the parental pressure can cause a sticky situation, Deel says handling the parents is far easier than controlling the marshmallow fights that often break out.

She explains, “We hand out bags of marshmallows, but some of the wilder teens go crazy and start throwing marshmallows. It’s always a problem.”
