Port Byron, Illinois, residents are heaving with anticipation as they prepare to battle folks from LeClaire, Iowa, in The 21st Annual Great River Tug Fest, an all-out tug-o-war across the mighty Mississippi River on Saturday, August 11th.
The Tug Fest hauls onto the state line between Illinois and Iowa, as 11 teams of 20 people pull on a 2,400-foot rope from each side of the Mississippi.
According to Media Chairman Tammy Mumma, this years competition is serious business.
She says: There was never a rivalry between the towns before, but there definitely is now. Its a big deal.
Along with a years worth of bragging rights, the winning town pulls away with the coveted Alabaster Eagle trophy to show off their tugging supremacy.
