‘American Idol’ Helps Ailing Elephants

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Voting for your favorite singer on American Idol is one thing, but now those votes are helping ailing elephants without a voice.

Simon Cowell may be singing his way to the bank from the show’s success, but CEO and co-founder of Jerry Cover used the sing-off show as inspiration for his site’s charity contest, “A Better World.”

Instead of focusing their energies on picking pop tarts like Jordin Sparks, online visitors choose which charitable causes they believe deserve donations the most.

Cover says, “For many charities, $100,000 in prize money is more than their entire annual budget.”

And all sorts of charities have been stampeding for the loot – because $100,000 is a price tag that’s hard to forget.

Says Cover, “There’s one elephant sanctuary that’s gotten a lot of attention. We’ve had votes coming in from Canada and 20 different states for them.”
