Tour A Famous Building-Turned-Crack Den

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You could overdose from star tours in Hollywood, but now you can have a tripped-out tour of an author’s crack den.

Author John Fante penned the story behind the film Ask The Dust, which starred Salma Hayek and Colin Farrell, and now his literary groupies can take you to the condemned building where inspiration first hit Fante – if the LAPD will let you near it, that is.

According to Fante tour guide Richard Schave, the building where the author wrote his book in 1939 is now a run-down crack den in the grimy streets of downtown Los Angeles where a man was also recently murdered.

But Schave says the slaying was 20 days ago and it’s no reason to miss such a historical landmark tour.

And although tourists can’t actually enter Fante’s crack den palace, Schave believes the author’s spirit still lurks in the corners of the building where he once lived.

Says Schave: “Fante was a heavy drinker, and he drank even after they cut off his legs from Diabetes. I’m sure he’s drinking with the hobos that live in there now in spirit, because that would be something he’d approve of.”

The Fante Tour cruises L.A. this Saturday (June 16).
