Take The Ouch Out Of Adventure Sports

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Before you bust out the bike or board this summer, make sure your head’s in the right place – under a helmet.

That’s the safe story from occupational therapist Michelle Sheperd, who says that with any contact sport, from rock climbing to river rafting, wearing a helmet is a no-brainer.

While different sports require different safety preparation, Sheperd is dead set on one hobby you should avoid at all costs this summer: riding motorcylces.

Sheperd says, “My advice about motorcycles is don’t ride one.”

While she jokes that chess is the safest sport, Sheperd does have some tried and true tips for more active and safe summer sporting.

Along with knee and elbow pads, Sheperd urges aggressive athletes to always carry a cell phone and identification on them in case of emergencies.
