Video Game Controllers Get Star Treatment

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Video game controllers aren’t usually the highlight of the gaming industry, but some new specialty video game controllers are getting the star treatment – literally.

Video game company Activision has teamed up with celebrities like Jack Black, Kelly Slater, Tony Hawk and My Chemical Romance to introduce a line of gaming controllers designed exclusively by celebrities that will be sold at an online auction starting April 3 to benefit the MusiCares foundation.

The controllers are all in the shape of mini-guitars and are for Guitar Hero II, an interactive musical video game that tests your ability to rock out by playing your guitar controller along to popular songs by bands like Van Halen and Guns N’ Roses.

Activision spokesman Tim Riley believes the celebrity inspired controllers will get fans of both gaming and stars into the game and expects to see lots of cool controllers from the stars.

For example, Hawk’s controller has his signature and a skateboard design on it, while Black’s will be more of a “total surprise.”

The controllers are on public display in Austin, Texas, starting today (March 9).
