Portland, Maine Is The Next Florence, Italy

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When one thinks of the great art capitals of the world Portland, Maine, doesn’t instantly come to mind – but it just might be the next Florence, Italy.

That’s the word from TV host Mame McCutchin, who spent eight weeks checking out the American art scene in an RV.

The New Yorker says she’s been vacationing in Portland for years, but never realized how dedicated the residents were to art until she rolled up in the “Art-V.”

Says McCutchin: “It’s not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Maine – you think of lobster or something – but it was a very artistic town.”

She says she was also impressed by the thriving art scenes in Tucson, Arizona and Palm Springs, California and even learned to appreciate sights like the largest ball of paint in Alexandria, Indiana, during her travels.

Artland: USA premieres Thursday (Oct. 12) on the Gallery HD network.
