Sister Act Mixes Burlesque, Go-Go Boots And PinUps In Feminist ‘Twist Party’

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you think feminism can’t wear Nancy Sinatra go-go boots and mix sexy burlesque with rockabilly – get with it, Daddy-o!

Angie Pontani leads The World Famous Pontani Sisters through Go-Go and burlesque-inspired dance lessons on a new companion DVD to coincide with Twist Party!!!, the upcoming CD release by revivalist rockers Los Straitjackets.

According to Pontani: “Not many people think of push-up bras and lipstick as feminism, but we’re owning what we do very much – and that’s feminist to me.”

The sisters provide warm-ups and warm-downs as bookends to the DVD’s dance lessons – which include “The Kitty Kat” and “Hypno-Twist” – utilizing costume changes, go-go boots and sexy tributes to aspects of burlesque, ’50s pinups and even vaudeville.

Pontani says it’s always fun and “kinda the new feminism” to hear women call their performances “empowering.”

The project hits stores Oct. 3.
