B.J. Thomas Keeps Church Music From Being ‘Showbizzy’

DALLAS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – You’ll be hearing a lot more of B.J. Thomas in the near future – if you go to church.

Thomas – who is best known for hits like “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” and “Hooked On A Feeling” – has just finished recording hymns with Crystal Gayle for a new DVD series called We Praise!

The idea is that churches can play the spiritual recordings during services either with Thomas or Gayle’s vocals or just the instrumental backing.

Thomas enjoyed the project because, first and foremost, the melodies are classics that have stood the test of time and because the producers didn’t try to modernize them for the sake of modernizing them.

In his words, “I’ve recorded these songs a number of times, sometimes in contemporary ways, but, this time, we did them as traditional and simple as possible. There weren’t ‘showbizzy’ performances. They were almost unsung.”

Thomas is concentrating more on his pop career than gospel these days but plans to perform some of the songs in his concerts.
