What’s In A Game Show?

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Deal Or No Deal has only been on the air for less than six months, but it already qualifies as one of the greatest game shows of all time.

That’s the word from Kevin Belinkoff, a programming executive for the Game Show Network – and he should know.

He just spent countless hours researching 50 years of game shows for an upcoming series of weekly specials appropriately called The 50 Greatest Game Shows Of All Time.

Belinkoff says Deal Or No Deal is the newest show making the list – while What’s My Line? and Beat The Clock are the oldest.

Game shows are sometimes the neglected stepchildren of TV, but Belinkoff says some of the most memorable moments ever filmed happened on game shows – such as the infamous “That be up the butt, Bob” comment on The Newlywed Game, which will be aired in its entirety.

He hopes the special makes people realize all good game shows have their merits and points out: “Not everyone wants to admit watching The Price Is Right, but no one is ashamed to say they watch Jeopardy.”

The series debuts July 18.
