Marketing expert Brian Vaszily claims Manilows music is a Copaca Cash Cow for retailers because, Hes big and the music gets people feeling good. Even the downbeat stuff is peppy.
As a result, the music entices people to buy, buy, buy.
Vaszily estimates that around 70 percent of purchases are unplanned and believes Manilows melodic music is especially effective because its non-invasive, which is key because, you cant think too much about a song while youre shopping.
Other musical acts are popular with retailers but Manilow is a step above because his tunes appeal to women between 30 and 50 the prime demographic.
Still, times change and so do musical tastes, and Vaszily predicts that Manilows Muzak monarchy will eventually be replaced by Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey or even Green Day.
Its not as far-fetched as it sounds. Just the other day, Vaszily says he just heard a Muzak version of the Guns & Roses song, Paradise City.
