Author Says Bible-Slinging One Dumb Thing Christians Do

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Those without sin can cast the first stone, but, for Christ’s sake, quit slinging bible verses around needlessly.

That’s what Mark Atteberry says, in part, in his new book The 10 Dumbest Things Christians Do (Thomas Nelson Press).

Atteberry says the most damaging, or dumb, thing Christians do these days is cast judgment and accuse others of sin instead of “trying to understand and show compassion.”

He says homosexuality and abortion are the issues inspiring Christians to be their most bone-headed and, in his words, “Maybe it’s because we’re afraid, or often, it’s because too many Christians just don’t know anyone homosexual or who has to face an abortion.”

Atteberry admits that, too often, this unfamiliarity breeds contempt, and “rather than building bridges, we’re too quick to sling bible verses that say this is a sin or that is a sin.”
