Aussie Wife Turns Boozy Marriage Into Comedy Gold

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Australians are known for playing harder than they work, but a new one-woman show is trying to turn that notion on its head.

The show is called One Night I Met An Australian, and it’s the comedic stage creation of the mono-monikered Daria, who met an Australian musician thirteen years ago while on a bender in a New York bar and married the bloke 12 hours later.

Amazingly, the couple has been happily married ever since.

While Americans might view Aussies as cultural oddities, Daria’s African-American heritage played just as oddly down under while she was building a life with her guitarist husband, Jason Campbell.

Daria says she definitely “stood out” in Sydney, but that the unlikely creative match with her hubby sustained their domestic, and professional, life.

In her words, “If I was as hard a worker as he is, maybe we wouldn’t have been married so long; but when he says, ‘It’s time to practice,’ I usually want a few more minutes to watch The Simpsons.”

Daria’s one-woman show, which is backed by her husband and his jazz band, plays April 29 through June 10 at the Sage Theatre in NYC.
