Thats why Ann Brazil, a mother in Pasadena, California, is offering what she believes is timely advice in the form of a new instructional DVD for children called Timeout Tot.
Its designed to teach kids ages 3-5 about the value of timeouts, and Brazil says thats crucial since many parents misuse, abuse or overuse the timeout concept.
In Brazils words, Make sure you dont forget your kids while theyre on timeout, of course. But also, dont overuse timeouts, because going there too often ruins effectiveness. And lastly, make sure you discuss the problem with the child before theyre off timeout.
According to Brazil, kids ages 3-5 dont necessarily misbehave on purpose, so its important to use timeouts as teachable moments as well as discipline.
