Real Rabbits Better Than Chocolate Kind For Dogs

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you want to give your pooch an Easter treat, you’re better off handing over a real rabbit than the chocolate kind.

That’s the warning from Stephen Gross of the Apothepet Veterinary Pharmacy. He has a bone to pick with people who give their chihuahuas chocolate because the sweet treat contains a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic.

But other Easter treats are also bad for Fido.

Gross says salty fatty pieces of ham cause stomach problems while fibrous veggies like asparagus can lead to doggie dehydration.

And while some dog owners think hard-boiled Easter eggs are healthy for dogs, Gross says they can cause throat obstructions since pooches tend to gulp their food.
