Today’s Holy Wars Aren’t Like The Good Old Days

LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – An upcoming PBS documentary proves holy wars ain’t what they used to be.

It’s called Holy Warriors and focuses on the relationship between British King Richard the Lionheart and his Muslim foe, Saladin, during the third Crusade in 1187.

Producer Anthony Geffen admits it’s impossible to make a film about the Crusades without drawing modern parallels, but says today’s Muslims and Christians are a lot less chivalrous than their ancestors.

For instance, Saladin refused to massacre the Christians he captured in Jerusalem and when King Richard was sick, he sent some fruit and a horse.

By comparison, Geffen says it’s doubtful that George W. Bush would ever do something similar for Osama bin Laden.

Holy Warriors debuts April 19 on PBS.
