Learning On The Job A Real Education For ‘Teachers’ Creator

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Art is imitating life for the creator of the NBC series, Teachers.

Matt Tarses, who is also an executive producer on Scrubs, says the idea for the show – which follows the lives of various teachers – is based on his brief experience as a teacher back in grad school.

As he puts it, “I was a 23-year-old teaching 19-year-olds and I realized how close I was to being a kid.”

Tarses thinks it’s amazing that people leave the job of instructing the young to those who “aren’t grown up [enough] to be role models themselves.”

But Tarses didn’t base the series entirely on his brief tenure as a teacher. Luckily, his best friend is a teacher and, as he puts it, “We hired him as a consultant and we’d feed him ideas and he’d say how it would play out in reality.”

Teachers debuts March 28.
