Would A Rose Martini By Any Other Name Taste Just As Sweet?

PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Portland, Oregon, is known for its trees and its rainfall but one enterprising foodie wants it to be known for its martini.

Erik Wolf has just introduced something called the “Rose Martini,” a rose-flavored cocktail that honors his hometown, which calls itself the “City of Roses.”

The pink-tinged beverage combines rose syrup with vodka and has a rose petal daintily placed on top.

Wolf says the idea first bloomed in his brain last summer when he realized that “roses not only smell good, they’re edible.”

Now he’s trying to make the Rose Martini as synonymous with Portland as the Manhattan is with New York and the Hurricane is with New Orleans – and he’s getting lots of support from the city’s restauranteurs.

And while a Rose Martini might sound like a foo-foo beverage, Wolf says it’s not as sweet as other martini-like concoctions and will go equally well with salads and seafood.
