Funk: The True Classical Music

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Beethoven and Mozart don’t get much credit as funk pioneers but George Clinton says they deserve as much props as James Brown.

Clinton says most people focus on the beats of funk but, in truth, the melodic phrases are as influenced by classical music as rhythm and blues.

As he puts it, “There are Gregorian chants, tribal chants and even bar mitzvah sounds. The Beatles did the same thing.”

Clinton says the use of classical motifs in funk is crucial because the beat “is so basic and pure, combining both industrial sounds and the sounds in the womb.”

As a result, Clinton believes classic funk compositions will be studied in depth hundreds of years from now in the same way symphonies are today.

Meanwhile, Clinton is still keeping his groove going. He’s just released his newest CD, How Late Do U Have 2 B B 4 U R Absent?, and he’s also head of a new record company, The C Kunspyruhzy, that features many of his Parliament-Funkadelic bandmates.
