Michelle Phillips Still ‘California Dreamin’’ After 40 Years

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Michelle Phillips, surviving mama from the ’60s rock ’n’ roll group The Mamas and Papas, is still “California Dreamin’” after all these years.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the release of the album California Dreamin’, and Phillips says the music still strikes a chord with young fans today.

She says, “I get fan mail that says I’m only 12, but you’re my favorite group.”

Every once in a while, a new remix of their songs seems to hit airwaves. Phillips says she heard a remix of “California Dreamin’” the other day and says she also likes Queen Latifah’s cover.

While Phillips says she hasn’t left behind California, she admits she doesn’t keep up with contemporary music. Instead, she listens to classical, bluegrass and country.

But don’t get her started on the subject of the Mamas and the Papas band that her ex-husband, and now deceased band founder, John Phillips, reformed in ’80s and ’90s.

She describes their stylings with words like “horrific” “horrible” and “embarrassing to me.”
