The Agus recently opened their Houston home to a longtime friend who lives in New Orleans by letting her stay with them until she gets back on her feet.
They are also considering letting other evacuees stay in their nearby apartment.
But the Agus arent the only ones getting in on the act. Joy says their neighbors have been knocking on their door asking if there is anything they can do to help offering jobs, airfare and even shoes.
Uchenna says The Amazing Race helped inspire them to help out storm victims.
In his words, There were a few times we had to beg in order to stay in the race. The race would have ended if we hadnt received charity from strangers. Its just a small window compared to what others have suffered but it opened our eyes.
The couple are hoping their efforts and their neighbors inspire other people to help, but Joy has learned something in the process. As she puts it, If I ever have to be a victim, Houston is where Id want to be.
