Folks Will Be Buzzing At Mosquito Festival

CLUTE, Texas (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The town of Clute, Texas, will be buzzing – in more ways than one – during the 2005 Mosquito Festival this Thursday (Jul. 28) to Saturday.

That’s because there will be plenty of “mosquito juice” – or beer – consumed at the annual ode to the irritating blood-sucking creatures, which will make events like the Mosquito Calling Contests that much more interesting.

Festival spokesperson Dana Pomerenke says mosquitos “don’t actually come” during the contest, but instead, several liquored up mosquito-loving folks compete by yelling, making buzzing noises and in general, “acting crazy” to obtain the applause of the audience.

Buzzed attendees can also participate in other mosquito-themed contests at the festival such as the Mosquito Chase – a 5- kilometer run – and the Mr. and Mrs. Mosquito Legs, where competitors hike up their shorts and show off their sexy legs.

Pomerenke says, “If they have skinny, hairy legs, it’s a shoe-in that they’ll win.”

Pomerenke expects 15,000 to 18,000 people to show up for the three day affair, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
