Getting Buzzed Is Only Natural

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The Supreme Court’s recent decision to ban medical marijuana use is a real buzzkill for pot users, but it also goes against humans’ universal drive to alter their minds.

That’s according to psychopharmacologist Ronald Siegel, who says getting a good buzz is our “fourth drive” next to our drives for food, sleep and sex.

He says “humans have used intoxicants forever” and craving drugs is just a natural part of our biology and not something that should be restricted.

In his words, “The war on drugs is really a war against ourselves.”

Still, Siegel admits many people take the desire to get buzzed too far by abusing drugs, and he says steps need to be taken to make prescription and over-the-counter drugs safer.

In the future, Siegel hopes drugs will be seen as more as a medicine rather than a problem.

His new book, Intoxication: The Universal Drive for Mind- Altering Substances (Park Street Press), goes into further details about our drug-craving tendencies.
