Shelby Lynne’s Secret For Recording Success: Don’t Let The Musicians Learn The Songs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Grammy winning country singer Shelby Lynne is revealing the secrets of her success: Don’t let the musicians learn the songs.

Lynne has just released her newest CD, Suit Yourself, and says she purposely kept the musicians in the dark just before recording in order to ensure spontaneous performances.

In her words, “I’m the only one who knows the song before I teach it to the band. Then we record it.”

Lynne makes great use of that technique on the album, even including moments where she teaches the song as part of the composition.

The process might scare more timid musicians but not Lynne, who insists, “Playing music isn’t brain surgery.” Still, she does admit struggling over other parts of recording such as the song order.

As she puts it, “Songs present themselves in a flow and they have to be in the right order to have the right amount of peaks and valleys.”
