The so-called Denim Destroyer made by Polysoft Products, Inc. is a hand-held micro abrasion device that is rubbed over jeans to give them an aged, vintage look.
It works by softening the material as it exposes the whiter core fibers of the jeans. In three minutes, the jeans can look years older.
Creator Brian Bushell says he took his companys abrasive devices and applied them to denim after seeing one of his gal pals aging her jeans with a razor blade and cutting her fingers to ribbons.
Bushell says new jeans that have been aged can sell for as much as $400 a pair, but he figures the Denim Destroyer will drive down the price of vintage jeans.
He expects the device to hit retailers like Wal-Mart soon and is also approaching jeans manufacturers to use the product because it eliminates the expensive aging step of stonewashing.
