How Will You Spend ‘National Root Canal Day?’

MADISON, Wis. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It’s enough to make your jaw ache: A Wisconsin dentist has dedicated a day to honoring the dreaded dental procedure known as the root canal.

Dr. Chris Kammer has received proclamations from the governor of Wisconsin and the mayor of his hometown, Madison, declaring May 11, “National Root Canal Day.”

If that’s not weird enough, Dr. Kammer says he wants dentists to celebrate the day by performing root canals in public places – such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the steps of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington.

He personally will be demonstrating the procedure on a live patient in a baseball stadium in Madison, where he will also debut a new rock song singing the praises of root canals.

Dr. Kammer says the root canal unfairly has a bad rap because people seem to forget that it’s the solution to really bad tooth pain, not the cause.

In his words, “It can’t talk and stand up and defend itself – it needs folks like me to do that.”
