Basketball’s Billy Packer Wants NBA To Go Four On The Floor

ST. LOUIS (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – CBS basketball broadcaster Billy Packer will be handling the NCAA basketball championship tonight (Apr. 4) but he’s got his mind on how to improve the action in NBA games.

Packer is doing a full-court press on NBA executives to get them to adopt a four-on-four format instead of the current five- on-five system.

His theory is that “much more skill would be used,” and figures four-on-four would require teams to exploit basketball skills as opposed to “...the positioning of people to have size to lean on somebody who can play.”

Dumping a position might sound like basketball heresy but Packer says the original game was played nine-on-nine and that the game’s creator, Dr. James Naismith, “never intended for guys 6-foot-9 to be able to run and jump and dominate the game.”
