Los Gatos Women Getting Stuffed On Fake Animal Heads

LOS GATOS, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A 59-year-old woman in Los Gatos, California, is making a killing off of fake stuffed animals.

For 30 years, Merikay MacKenna has been creating lifesize mounted creatures using papier mache and man-made fur and sells them to animal lovers around the world via her website,

MacKenna’s motto is “How to Get Ahead Without Hunting,” and while some critics think she is promoting animal heads as decor,“ she believes she is, “...celebrating the animals” and, as she puts it, “nothing gets killed.”

So far, MacKenna’s most popular head is the North American moose, which sells for $595 but she also gets lots of orders for dragons, dinosaurs, miniature critters and animal costume heads.

Surprisingly, business has been booming since Sept. 11 and she credits her success to the fact that she’s “... making something fun in a world on edge.”
