The pop-funk band is celebrating its 40th anniversary and leader Robert Kool Bell says the band is spending the next year looking at its past and its future.
The group has just released a CD, The Hits: Reloaded, that features new versions of hits like Ladies Night, and Too Hot, with guest appearances by Lauren Hill, Sean Paul and Redman.
In addition, the group will release an album of new material in September called Still Kool that Bell says will demonstrate the Gangs mastery of both funk and jazz.
Besides heading into the record stores, the Gang could end up in movie theaters. Bell has sold the rights to the bands story for a proposed movie called Hollywood Swinging.
Although the Gangs music has a happy tone to it, Bell says the film will probably be a gritty drama because the bands early history has enough conflict to make it No. 1 with a bullet.
