‘Saturday Night Live’s First Years Still Alive For Cast Members And Guests

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Saturday Night Live is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, but the show’s first episodes still live on in the minds of former cast members and guest hosts.

That’s what documentary filmmaker Kenneth Bowser learned while making Live From New York: The First 5 Years Of Saturday Night Live.

Bowser interviewed people like Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd and Eric Idle and says everyone connected with the early years has very nostalgic, if not melancholic, feelings about the show.

He says Chase still regrets leaving after the first season and is hurt “by the fact that people think he walked away” while guest hosts like Candice Bergen and Penny Marshall look upon their experience with the show as a career highlight.

In fact, Bowser says Eric Idle loved talking about SNL but warned, “Ask me about Monty Python and my eyes glaze over.”

Live From New York: The First 5 Years Of Saturday Night Live airs Sunday (Feb. 20) on NBC.
